finding the right keywords for your seo strategy

Cheers! You now understand the importance of a strong SEO strategy and it’s time to pick out some spirited keywords. Analyzing and selecting the right keywords for your content can be overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be. So, put on your blue light glasses and enjoy the quips.

In order to choose the best keywords, it’s important you have a solid grasp on your target market and how they rummage the internet for content. Also, keep in mind who your competitors are and how they are utilizing keywords in their own content.

Now before you go swimming in the never-ending abyss of keywords – dip your toe in and get a feel for the water. Determine a suitable approach that can assist you in discovering the best keywords for your content. A few distinct strategic maneuvers to approach this include utilizing long tail keywords and filtering your keyword searches by competitor, season and location.

Searching for relevant but broad keywords allows you to see the trends and search volumes. You will most likely find that your superlative keywords will have a very high search volume which means much more competition. Don’t be discouraged, because there are still plenty of stellar words out there and strategic ways that will allow you to compete on a large scale.

One-hit wonder! – Unlike singular, one off keywords, long tail keywords consist of 3-4 words to make up key phrases that are better fit for a more specific search. For example, rather than just searching, “shoes” add more specific language to narrow the search results, e.g “blue women’s pumps.” Although long tail keywords don’t acquire as much search traffic, they offer a greater conversion rate because of the specificity of the search and they are simpler to rank for.

Use your competitors’ words against them - Studying your competitors and pinpointing keywords that they are using will allow you to pounce on new opportunities. You can examine the keywords that your competitors are using by running a keyword audit with a tool like Ahrefs, or just by taking a look at their site and making note of service or product-related keywords across their content. Do you offer the same content or services?

While your competition might be offering the same solution as you, the difference lives in the product or method your company uses. Thus, allowing you to pick from an entirely unique prospect group of keywords. Using keywords that your competitors are underutilizing can yield great results for you by dominating the organic search results for your company.

Seasonal depression is real – Take advantage of changing seasons and start sprucing up your keywords for upcoming holidays. For instance, certain Christmas related keywords will begin peaking as early as October.

Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore – Know the location of your audience. Geo-specific keywords are important for local SEO and allows you to further target your keywords to a select city or state. The utilization of localized keywords can generously increase your scope of relevant keywords and have you showing up in more local searches. Additionally, this strategy will also inform you of the preferred terminology that you may not realize. For example, the term "semi-truck" is the preferred terminology for most of the country. However, the term “tractor-trailer” was preferred in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast

The purpose of finding good keywords is to build a strong even bridge between your audience and content.

Once you have an appreciation and awareness of your keywords and the time that goes into picking them. Now, begins the quest on how to cascade them gracefully throughout your content and website.

Creating natural and authentic content that is relevant to your market is a vital tool for companies looking to integrate strategic keywords throughout their website. Take your newly found understanding of the keywords that matter most to your website and allow them to influence your content.

Producing original content creates a more genuine piece of writing not only for your audience but Google as well. No one likes stale donuts! Keeping your content fresh not only raises you up on Google’s wings, but it keeps your existing visitors coming back, while also bringing in new ones.
